Come Ride With Us at the Key Ranch

Lessons at The Key Ranch near High River, Alberta

If you’re looking for a place to actually learn horsemanship—not just go through the motions—then I want to invite you out to the Key Ranch, home of Cowboy Campus, just outside High River, Alberta.

This isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” lesson program. This is real horsemanship, real conversations with horses, and real progress you can feel under you.

Bring Your Own Horse (That’s Encouraged)

I strongly encourage folks to bring their own horse. That’s where the real magic happens. You don’t just learn what to do—you learn how to help your horse become softer, more willing, and more confident. Every lesson is about problem-solving, clarity, and building a better relationship, not just drilling exercises.

If you don’t have a horse, we do have a limited number of lesson horses available. They’re usually fully booked, but you’re welcome to reach out and ask. If we can make it work, we will.

Year-Round Riding: Indoor & Outdoor Arenas

One of the things people love about the Key Ranch is that we can ride year-round.

  • A covered indoor arena for those Alberta days when weather wants to have an opinion

  • A beautiful outdoor arena when the seasons cooperate

That means we can stay consistent with your learning and your horse’s development, no matter the time of year.

What You Can Learn Here

Lessons are tailored to you and your goals, but here’s a taste of what we work on:

  • Foundational horsemanship and feel

  • Problem-solving and communication under saddle and on the ground

  • Working the flag to develop timing, softness, and awareness

  • Cattle work, and at times bison, depending on the season and availability

Nothing is forced. Everything is intentional. The goal is a thinking horse and a confident rider who understands why things work.

Private Lessons, Group Lessons & Clinics

You can book:

  • Private lessons for focused, one-on-one learning

  • Group lessons if you like learning alongside others

  • Group weekend clinics, which are a great way to immerse yourself, learn deeply, and have a lot of fun doing it

And yes—it really is fun to ride here. Folk's say that something about this place that invites you to slow down, breathe, and actually be present with your horse.

One of the extra perks of being part of our lesson community at the Key Ranch—especially through the spring, summer, and fall—is that it goes well beyond the arena. As a lesson group, we often head out for trail rides and other fun, confidence-building activities that let you and your horse put the work into a real-world setting. We host group clinics just for our lesson riders, and when the seasons line up, we also organize guided trail rides out in Kananaskis exclusively for our lesson folks. It’s a great way to build camaraderie, deepen your horsemanship, and simply enjoy your horse in some pretty incredible country.

Easy Access, Trailer-Friendly

We’ve got:

  • Plenty of parking for horse trailers

  • Easy drive-in and turnaround access

  • No tight corners or stressful unloading

You can show up, unload, and focus on what you came for—learning and riding.

Why Ride With Us?

I’ve spent a lifetime learning from horses, not just training them. Every lesson I teach comes from experience, mistakes, successes, and listening to what horses are actually telling us. My goal isn’t to make you dependent on me—it’s to give you tools you can take home and use long after the lesson is over. If that sounds like your kind of horsemanship, we’d love to have you out.
